This was our lovely apartment in Launceston - The York Mansion. We were just a 5 or so minute walk from the main centre of town......
and just around the corner from this lovely park.
Where dogs were not welcome!
Jenny's Grandfather, my Great Grandfather - "Dar" was born in Launceston in 1887, the same year that this rotunda was placed in this park....... so you could say that it sort of belongs to me.
This park, oddly enough, was also home to the Japanese Macaque - a funny little monkey. It was such a strange exhibit to have here in the middle of Launceston.
After a day of wandering around Launceston, we came to the conclusion that as pretty as Launceston might be, there wasn't a hell of a lot to do here. We had planned to visit the one must see tourist attraction, the famous Cataract Gorge on a dryer, warmer day, so this threateningly cold, wet day was spent just seeing what else this little town had to offer........ and it turns out - not much.
So back to our mansion apartment for lunch and a good thawing out and once the sun had briefly come out, a walk in the gardens.
And so after a bitterly cold day, the cloud gave us a sign that tomorrow would be that little bit warmer. Even though my Uncle Bernard says that the saying: "Red sky at night, sailor's delight" is a crock of shit!
Love it. I just asked Nigel what we did in Launceston that was good to tell Shell - he said "bought Tommy a pair of thongs"
ReplyDeleteI have been posting lots of comments but then can't see them again? I just worked out you have to scroll down and put in the 'funny word thingo' to actually publish. Woops.
