Have You Seen Waygoe?

As we drove in from the airport on our first night we went past this little wharfed area with barge boats selling fish & chips.  That's a must do tourist thing, we thought to ourselves and so after our trek through the Markets - this is where we headed.

We chose Flippers, not only because it was the first one we came across, but because it was shaped like a fish and it's creativity like this that will earn you points in my book!

This is how you ordered and paid!  You had to step from terra firma onto a little, slightly unstable ledge that was hovering over the water between the wharf and the barge, all the while fearing the contents of your purse would drop into the murky depths below.  Jenny asked if many things were known to have fallen in and the chap answered "Yeah, a few notes float down there from time to time."

Lunch!   Very tasty flathead tails and way too many chips.

When Jen was in Tassie about 15 years ago, she and Col were travelling around, south or Hobart, looking at all the boats.  Col said, "You know, I think Geoff's boat is in Tasmania somewhere." and at that moment they looked left and there she was - Waygoe.  My Uncle Geoff used to fish in Geraldton, Western Australia, but sold his boat many years ago.

A couple of months ago, another Uncle, my lovely Uncle Bernard was travelling in Tassie and was wandering through the wharf area in Hobart and they stumbled across Waygoe as well.

So as we ate our fish & chips, I said to Jen, "Chris (my gorgeous cousin) said that Uncle Geoff's boat was in the harbour here somewhere." And as we turned, this is what we saw in the distance........

Waygoe, nestled in behind the other bigger boats.  Honestly, it's like she's crying out to be found!  A little bit of home all the way on the other side of the country.  We also noticed that the police boat was made by the Geraldton Boat Builders - so there must be some bigger connection between Hobart and Gero?

Somebody said, "Look at that ferry!"  But I couldn't see it.
You see, it's funny, because it's camouflaged?  See what I did there?

The little statues on the rocks in the harbour reminded me of when Jen and I were in Copenhagen.  We made our way down to their harbour to catch a glimpse of Hans Christian Anderson's Little Mermaid - a large statue (tourist attraction) but she had gone on holidays to China!!!! and in her place was a miniature plastic one that someone had stuck there with blue tack!
Don't these little fellas have a lovely view?  If only there could turn around!

If you don't want birds to shit on your boat - get one of these inconspicuous security systems.
