Highway Robbery!

On the high street from one end to the other, there is a row of red bricks that have been set into the footpath with details of the crimes, sentences and arrival dates of convicts.

The bricks were perhaps left over from the 1.5 million they had to bake when they built the "Red Bridge" at the top of the main street?

I know it's well documented that people were charged and sent to Van Diemen's Land for a range from crimes from murder to the pettiest of misdemeanours, but it's crazy to think what a time it must have been for those poor people who were perhaps just trying to survive when they let their good judgement slip and got nabbed!

Patric Corkey stole a coat and shoes at age 19 and got 7 years!

Benjamin Ashford was 39 when he and a mate made away with the Vicar's silverware...... perhaps not too innocent!

Where was Elizabeth Morgan going where she just couldn't do without somebody else's umbrella?  She was given 7 years to think about whether it was worth it.

John Constantine got done for Highway Robbery - 15 years he got......... and yet the man at the Ross gift shop was selling fridge magnets for $6.00 each and I didn't see one police person!

Campbell Town was also home to one of the biggest antique shops I've seen with very reasonable prices.

He had all sorts of treasures - if only we could carry them back on the plane!  When we walked in I noticed 2 staffies fast asleep in front of the fire.  When I was on my way out they were well and truly awake and they both had hold of an old fashioned Winnie the Pooh bear.  One arm each mouth......... I don't think Pooh would have lasted too long!
